LECCO
Lecco is a picturesque town with a population of about 50,000 situated on the eastern shores of "Lake Como", . It is surrounded by a majestic chain of mountains with spectacular scenery which has inspired famous artists, writers and great scientists – starting with LEONARDO DA VINCI who possibly took inspiration from the incomparable natural beauty of these surroundings when he painted the backdrop to his masterpiece the Mona Lisa. Lecco’s elegant and harmonious architecture, its well-preserved historic old quarters, the enchanting lakeside walk, the shops, the restaurants, the theatre…everything in Lecco is on a “human” scale and the inhabitants manage to combine hard work with a very high quality of life.
Climate
Generally mild thanks to the proximity of the lake, temperatures vary from 8°C in winter and 28-30°C at the height of summer.
Communications
Within easy distance of Milan (50 km),Como (30 km) and Bergamo (35 km), Lecco is served by several important road links which make it easy to get to..
It is also on the main railway line from Milan to Sondrio as well as being on the lines to Bergamo, Brescia and Como. The nearest airports are Orio al Serio (Bergamo) 25km and Linate (Milan) 40 km. Malpensa on the other hand is 70 km away. The Lake Como Boat Service operates all year round (making more frequent trips during the tourist season) and links up delightful localities such as Varenna, Menaggio and Bellagio (and Lecco in high season).
